Over 40,000 online votes were cast and the winner of the 2008 West Virginia Power Cover Contest has been named. The design by Ariel Benson, 12 year old from Ravenswood Middle School, has been selected by the public as the contest winner. Benson’s design, which features the Power’s most beloved mascot, Charlie, will be featured as the cover of the first edition of the 2008 Game Program.
Due to such an enormous response, the Power have decided to feature the first runner-up’s design as well. The design by 17 year old Riley Adkins of Mingo Career & Technical Center, which showcases the five Power mascots and a baseball sailing out of the park, will be featured as the cover for the 2008 Pocket Schedule. The other three final designs will be featured in the first edition 2008 Game Program.
As a reward for Benson’s creativity and the support from Ravenswood Middle School, the Power staff and mascots will be visiting the school this spring for a lunchtime cookout featuring hot dogs, soda and water.
As a thank you to all participating students, they will receive 4 Power tickets for FestivALL weekend, June 28-29, their artwork displayed on the video board during FestivALL weekend, name recognition in the 2008 Power Program as well as on the West Virginia Power website, wvpower.com.
“Last year we were blown away by the response with over 1,000 entries and 30,000 votes. This year was no different. The students and teachers jumped on board and submitted some really great entries and once again the public got behind the students and showed their support with online votes totaling over 40,000.” stated Power General Manager, Ryan Gates. “The Power congratulates all of the students on a job well done and looks forward to seeing more artwork from the youth again next year.”
